SNAPSHOT

The Grand Parade, Cork’s thoroughfare, is taken over every year by brass bands and carol singers. I’ve also got my family ticket booked for Aladdin, the panto at the Everyman Palace Theatre, 5 December – 10 January.

FROM AIRPORT TO CITY

Bus Éireann Air Coaches depart from outside Arrivals at regular intervals, and take 25 minutes to reach the city centre (€4.10 single/€7 return).

The Ivory Tower

The Franciscan Well

The Crane Lane Theatre

Phoenix Street, +353 (0)21 427 8487, www.cranelanetheatre.com This 19th-century building is home to three bars, a heated beer garden and Wednesday’s Dance Yo’ Ass Off! club night, admission to which is free.

INSIDER TIP

The Farmgate Café in the English Market is where you can still sample Cork fare like tripe and drisheen.
