SNAPSHOT

Snow is pretty rare here but for a couple of days in December locals are usually up for a snowball fight.

FROM AIRPORT TO CITY

Buses go to the city centre every half-hour. Journey time is 30 minutes. Tickets are 50 kronor (€4.50).

FOOD

Lokal

Kyrkogatan 11, +46(0)31 13 3200, www.lokalgbg.se The food is good and reasonably priced but it’s the imaginative drinks that stand out at Lokal. Just ask the bartender for a surprise and you’re in for a treat. Main courses from 120 kronor (€12).

Krakow

Karl Gustavsgatan 28, +46 (0)31 20 3374, www.krakow.nu I love this place, not only for the hearty polish dishes and strong beverages, but also for the cosy atmosphere. Just avoid the Golonka if you’re not a huge fan of gigantic plates of meat. Main courses from 75 kronor (€7.50).

FRIENDS

Universeum

Södra Vägen 50, +46 (0)31 335 6450, www.universeum.se At the largest science centre in Sweden you can see sharks, snakes and loads of other exotic animals. Family entrance 450 kronor (€43).

The Gothenburg Opera House

Christina Nilssons Gata, +46(0)31 10 8000, www.opera.se With a repertoire from Mozart’s Requiem to Guys and Dolls, it satisfies most tastes. Sit in the bar with a cappuccino watching the boats. Opera tickets 140-400 kronor (€14-40)
