SNAPSHOT

I spend winter months touring Poznan’s many cultural spaces. The Zamek (“Castle”) Cultural Centre is a safe bet, with plenty to discover in art, cinema, music, theatre, and literature. Find out more at www.zamek.poznan.pl

FROM AIRPORT TO CITY

Take the 48, 59 or L bus. Alternatively the centre is only 7km away by taxi, which is 50 zloty (€12).

FOOD

Chlopskie Jadlo

ul. Kantaka 8-9, +48 (0)61 853 5070, www.chlopskiejadlo.pl Slices of thick-cut rustic bread and a portion of lard are the complimentary starter at this Polish country-style restaurant. It’s no tourist-trap, however - plenty of Poles call it a favourite too.

Canappka

ul. Ratajczaka 37, +48 (0)61 852 3514, www.canappka.pl This sandwich spot is now a chain. Choose from a variety of fresh fillings, at surprisingly low prices, from 3.40 to 7.40 zloty (€0.80-1.70).

FRIENDS

Blue Note Jazz Club

ul. Kosciuszki 76-78, +48 (0)61 851 0408, www.bluenote.poznan.pl It may not be related to that Blue Note, but at a recent performance violin star Nigel Kennedy did say that the Poznan version is “much better”!

Cafe Novowiejska

ul. Nowowiejska 6 As the newest contender in Poznan’s clubbing scene, Cafe Novowiejska’s chic minimal décor draws in the crowd.

INSIDER TIP

Warm up with the seasonal version of beer and wine (grzaniec). Heated up with honey and spices such as cinnamon and cloves, this yummy alternative will banish your winter blues.
