Christmas in Sofia sees a whole host of festive events. The International Book Fair (2-6 December) reminds residents of their literary side, while film festival Cinemania hits the National Palace of Culture in November.

Bulgaria lays claim to the world’s healthiest yoghurt. The kiseolo mlyako has a strain of beneficial bacteria found only in this country, so sufferers of a slow digestive transit should stock up.
