SNAPSHOT

Throughout the summer, catch the local Three Town Philharmonic orchestras playing promenade concerts every weekend at the Spianada Green.

FROM AIRPORT TO CITY

Only 3km from Corfu Town, a taxi is less than €10, and buses to all parts of the island leave from the airport.

FOOD

Minori Taverna

Messonghi/Moraitika If homecooked, proper authentic Greek cuisine is what you’re after, then look no further than the quaint Minori Taverna. Proprietor Harry is not only the friendliest guy on the island – his cooking is worthy of the gods.

Nikos Family Taverna

Roda, +30 266 306 3434 On the eastern side of the island, the sleepy town of Roda is home to Nikos Family Taverna. You’ll be hard pressed to find a tastier beef stifado. Their lamb literally dissolves in your mouth. Lovely.

FRIENDS

Billy’s Bar and Taverna

Moraitika, +30 266 302 6610 At the side of the main road leading to Lefkimi is Billy’s Bar. Local cuisine, and the odd concession to the English palate – try the steak – combined with Billy’s skills as a raconteur, make this a fine place to while away the day.

Harma Café

Eleftheriou Benizelou 46a This US-style waterfront café towards the Old Fortress is one of the island’s gems. It has spectacular views, great coffee, wi-fi and the apple pie is the best you’ll find this side of the Atlantic. Local offerings are tasty – try the meze.

INSIDER TIP

Take a boat trip and explore the Corfu Prefecture for the Ionian sea and Paxoi, Othonoi, Ereikussa and Mathraki isles.
